What we create

What Types of Fitted Furniture Do We Create?

Anything that can be built into a wall, an alcove or a slope, we can make to measure. In practice that means fitted wardrobes, media walls, home offices and studies, kitchens and utility rooms, and storage for the tricky spaces that defeat everything off the shelf. Nine categories below. If what you have in mind is not one of them, ring us anyway, because it usually still is.

What Is Fitted Furniture Actually Made From?

Carcasses are built from furniture-grade board, and doors and fronts are whatever suits the room and the budget. That usually means a painted or sprayed finish, a wood veneer, or a high-pressure laminate in one of the hundreds of colours and textures now available.

The part people tend not to think about is the bit they will touch every day. Soft-close hinges and runners, solid drawer boxes, properly braced shelves that will not bow under a winter coat collection. Cheap fitted furniture usually looks identical on day one and gives itself away within a year, and it is nearly always the moving parts that go first.

Everything is scribed to your walls and floors, which matters more than it sounds. Almost no wall in a British house is straight and almost no floor is level. Scribing is what closes those gaps, and it is the difference between furniture that looks built in and furniture that looks pushed up against a wall.

How Long Does Fitted Furniture Take?

Most projects run from design visit to installation in a few weeks. The design stage moves at whatever pace suits you, because nothing is made until you have signed the drawings off. Once it is ordered, manufacturing is the longest part, and fitting itself is usually one to three days on site depending on the size of the job.

A single set of wardrobes is at the quicker end. A whole-home project, or anything involving a kitchen, takes longer and is worth planning around. If you are working to a deadline, a new baby, a house move, Christmas, tell us at the design visit and we will be straight with you about whether it is realistic.

Can Fitted Furniture Be Changed Later?

Interiors, yes. The carcass, not easily. Shelves, rails, drawer inserts and internal dividers can all be moved or added later, and we design them on adjustable systems for exactly that reason. Children grow, wardrobes fill up, a study becomes a nursery.

The structure itself is fixed to the walls and finished into the room, so it is not something you take with you when you move. That is worth weighing up honestly. What it does tend to do is add to what a buyer will pay for the house, particularly in bedrooms and awkward rooms that would otherwise sit empty.

Fitted Furniture Questions

Do you make freestanding furniture as well?

Our work is fitted, because that is where made-to-measure earns its keep. If a room genuinely suits freestanding we will say so rather than sell you something it does not need.

Can you match furniture we already have?

Usually yes. Bring a photo, or a door front if you have a spare, and we will do our best to match the colour and style so the new work sits with the old rather than against it.

Do you handle electrics and lighting?

We design lighting into the furniture as standard and fit it as part of the build. Anything that needs a new circuit is work for a qualified electrician, and we will tell you clearly where that line falls before you commit.

What happens if something is not right after fitting?

You ring us and we come back and sort it. Every piece carries a 10-year guarantee and the team who made it is the team who fixes it, so there is nobody to be passed along to.

Do you work outside the North West?

Our regular patch is Warrington, Cheshire, Manchester and the surrounding towns, but we do take on projects further afield across mainland England, Wales and Scotland. Ask and we will tell you honestly whether it makes sense.
